With T.V. shows and commercials pushing to do renovations the most common place to spend your renovation dollars is the kitchen. New kitchens can range in price from $3,000 all the way of to $25,000. The question is………….Is it really necessary? Well this all depends………
When we go to list a property to sell we often take a walk around a house to see what things stand out that a buyer would notice. When we look at older kitchens we investigate a little further and look at the cabinets. What people over look often is that the older houses have solid wood cabinets. Yes they might look ugly because they are often dark and dated and usually have the old hardware BUT they are solid wood. Most new kitchens today are’nt made of solid wood, they are often made of compressed wood chips called MDF. Instead of spending thousands of dollars toget a new kitchen that the new buyer will get to enjoy why not roll up your sleeves, sand and repaint the cabinets and put new hardware on them. The investment would be about $500 and the kitchen will look brand new. Rememeber buyers buy with their eyes and when they see new painted SOLID wood cabinets with new hardware they will think that it is a new kitchen and less work for them to do which means they are will to spend more on the house.
We hope this helps if you ever decide to sell your home. If you have any questions please email us or leave a comment below
